"Sonatina for Violin and Harp (1999)"![]()
Composed by John Marson
Edited by Gabriella Dall'Olio Tommy Reilly and Skaila Kanga formed what was perhaps the only concert duo of harmonica and harp, working together for some years. It was at Tommy's suggestion that John Marson wrote this delightful piece for them in 1981/2, and they performed it many times in concert and for the BBC. When Tommy ceased to play in public John decided to make some changes and present it as a Sonatina for violin and harp. This revised version, dating from 1999, perhaps acknowledges that Tommy would have been an outstanding violinist had world events not prevented him from completing his studies of that instrument. His playing was always inspired by violinists, and perhaps makes the reworking of the piece a logical development.
Supplied as harp score and violin part.
